Avera St. Luke s Cancer Care Center is a radiation therapy treatment center with a staff that includes a full-time radiation oncologist, a physicist, a certified medical dosimetrist, radiation therapists, registered nurses and radiologic technologists. The center is equipped with some of the most advanced radiation therapy treatment technology. The Varian 21EX Platinum linear accelerator is a 9-foot tall machine that can perform not only conventional radiation therapy, but a variety of specialized treatments, such as intensity modulated radiation therapy. Computer-generated images are used to plan and then deliver tightly focused radiation beams to cancerous tumors while preserving healthy tissues.
