Provided by YP.comI was very excited to come here based on all the great things I have heard about it and left very disappointed. It was more than just bad food or service, it was how paying customers were treated. Apparently the term "best south of boston" is used very loosely.
Before I begin, I'd like to say that our bill for 5 people came to about 140$ with tip, which isn't bad, but should live up to our expectations. We were there to celebrate my sister's birthday, and called about 24 hours in advance to make a reservation for 5 at 5:30 on a Saturday. When we got there, we had a 10 minute wait. We were sat at a 4 person booth in the lounge/bar area with an fifth seat added to the head of the booth as if they weren't expecting us or something. Needless to say, we did not have much room. The service did not start great, and never became great. We were constantly needing more drinks, probably most due to the fact that the soda/water glasses were very small, and only included one free refill. We ordered two appetizers, the calamari and bruchetta. I am a vegetarian, but the other people at my table were wowed by the calamari. The flavor on the bruschetta was good but very difficult to eat. Three of us at the table ordered a parmesan meal, one chicken parm, one eggplant parm and one a mix of both chicken and eggplant. The chicken was edible, but flavorless, as well as the sauce and pasta that came with it. The eggplant was cut very thickly and was a weird grayish color on the inside. There was barely any mozzarella or sauce on it. I had to ask for more sauce (which was basically canned sauce heated up) because the eggplant was so overcooked it was hard and tasted burnt. The waitress came over to check on us about 3/4 way through the meal, which is when I got my extra sauce. The most pleasant person in this experience was the bus/water boy who I told that it was my sisters birthday (in secret because I hoped she'd be surprised with a song and small brownie sundae or something). Apparently, this place does not give any dessert on your birthday unless you order it, so my sister was not surprised and needless to say we went down the road for peaceful meadows for dessert. I am usually not one to complain because I have worked in many restaurants and know what it is like. I probably would have given this place another shot based on it's good reputation had I not made the mistake of trying to express my experience to the man behind the hostess counter who seemed to be the owner or a manager of sorts.
After explaining to him that we were disappointed, he became very defensive and said something along the lines of "well I came over and checked on you and you said it was fine." What he is referring to is when we were handing the waitress our signed receipt, he came over quickly and asked how our meals were and before we could even answer, he said great and was gone. Did not even give us a chance to answer. This was what made me want to go talk to him more in the first place. To make a long story short, after I told him why I was disappointed, he told me he "disagreed" with me and that he thinks they "are a good restaurant". I don't care what you think, a customer that just paid you almost 150$ is giving you input and he basically told me I was wrong. When I told him we wouldn't be going back, he acted surprised. I was so shocked I left and told him he had awful customer service. This place is an absolute mess. It has no clue if its a bar, fine dining, or a pub based not he awful atmosphere and rude servers. The lighting was awful and all around an inexcusable experience for the "best south of Boston". I was not very upset until I talked to the owner, and now I will make it my mission to tell everyone I know not to go there, because even the rudest of customers (which I was not at all) do not deserve to be treated the way we were treated.
