The Aiken Housing Authority has been operational for more than 60 years and offers a variety of housing programs to low- and moderate-income families and individuals. Its Family Self-Sufficiency program is a plan to facilitate and place families seeking independence from welfare assistance to become self-sufficient. The program includes transportation, child care, job training, counseling, placement, money management, and substance and alcohol abuse treatment and counseling. It also runs housing choice voucher and tenant-based rental assistance programs. The authority s out-of-school program helps youths between the ages of 16 and 21 to acquire employment and provides individual and group counseling, career planning assistance and occupational skills training. Its youth academy programs assist students in improving their grades. The Aiken Housing Authority is located in Aiken, S.C.
