In 2013, we renovated the inpatient area, going from semi-private to all single-occupancy patient rooms, family friendly with a sofa sleeper and beautiful nature photos on the walls. Our attractive birthing center features comfortable and spacious labor/delivery rooms, with amenities like a whirlpool tub, mini fridge and wireless internet. In 2017 and 2018, Riverwood was recognized as a Top 20 Critical Access Hospital. Our hospital is backed by accreditation from the Joint Commission, which sets state-of-the-art standards for quality and safety of patient care. In a rural area like ours, outstanding emergency care is critical. Our Aitkin hospital has designations of Comprehensive Advanced Life Support Hospital (CALS), Level III Trauma Center and Level I Heart Attack Hospital, partnering with the Minneapolis Heart Institute at Abbott Northwestern Hospital. In the event of a heart attack, stroke or trauma-related injury, Riverwood’s emergency staff is ready with life-saving care 24/7.
