Alameda County Environmental Health Department works in cooperation with the public works agency. The department implements the industrial and commercial component of the Alameda County Clean Water Program's stormwater management plan. Its program includes inspection of facilities for compliance with the clean water regulations, outreach and education of management practices to business owners, followup inspection for enforcement action, and creation and maintenance of database of businesses in Alameda County, Calif. The department s drinking water program provides hygiene information, and inspects water systems on a regular basis. Its water program also reviews plans for the construction and expansion of systems with less than five connections, and investigates suspected drinking water disease outbreaks. Its Local Enforcement Agency division provides inspection services for various landfills, transfer stations, refuse vehicles, complaints, recycling and waste diversion facilities, and closed landfills. Additionally, the department inspects and registers medical waste generator facilities, including hospitals with medical waste treatment, medical waste haulers, treatment and disposal facilities.
