I can't recommend Capt Jim enough. Very thorough, knowledgeable, professional, & helpful.
His surveyed saved my wife and I from a project that would have sank us. Then he pointed us in the right direction to find our dream boat. His book was a good read, full of pratical information, and inspiring stories.

I recently had the pleasure of working with Captain Jim Elfers as I was preparing to purchase my Grand Banks 42. I was residing out of state, and Jim handled the whole process for me; acting as buyers agent, marine surveyor, transporter..... and he even completed some of the needed repairs. His knowledge of boats is exhaustive, and his professionalism exemplary. He knew exactly which "potentials" to focus on after meeting with me over the phone and immediately sent me possible listings via email. He provided specific pros and cons for each vessel, enabling me to make an informed decision. After I extended the offer, Jim completed the marine survey and provided a detailed written report enabling me to further negotiate the purchase price.



I highly recommend the services of Jim Elfers, as I am completely satisfied with my purchase and very happy with the price I was able to negotiate. Throughout the process, Jim remained flexible with his time and always kept me informed of "next steps". We needed a survey for our newly-purchased Nelson Marek 366 in order to get her insured and contacted Jim by email on recommendation from the boatyard where the boat was hauled. Jim replied within a couple of hours and also followed up with a phone call. He agreed to do the survey on Saturday, which I very much appreciated because meeting him during work hours would have been tough for me.



Jim was just super. Experienced and thorough -- he went over the boat with a fine tooth comb -- Jim asked pertinent questions and pointed out a bunch of stuff for me to think about and improve. The survey itself was beautifully formatted and well-written with thoughtful commentary (I've had boats surveyed before and those surveys always seem to be little more than hand written notes). I also appreciated that Jim finished the work within one day and delivered the final product over email.



I recommend Jim without reservation and will definitely call on him again.
