My younger brother completed the 30-day treatment treatment program at Desert Oasis Recovery (DOR), and was less than satisfied with the therapy provided. While attending individual counseling at DOR, he disclosed very sensitive information about his relationship with his parents. This information was then disclosed by Ms. Pacheco--the facility's director--during group family therapy, so that the entire group (which included several residents' family members) heard the contents of the private conversations between my brother and his therapist. My brother, who is well beyond the age of consent, never signed a release of information allowing the information shared in therapy to be disclosed to anyone, even his parents. In addition to this ethical violation, DOR reeked havoc with his insurance, failing to submit the claim correctly, or in a timely manner, costing my brother and his family thousands of dollars--and a lot of heartache.
