I was upset last year because I was charged a fitting fee and an exam fee. Give me a break, my old doctor didn't do that. I now live out of state and am going on a trip and need to get some lenses before I go. My prescription clearly expires in TWO WEEKS. I tried to order a box of lenses for each eye from Vision Direct and when the called the docs office to verify the order, the doc denied it saying that it is too close to the expiration date. Really? but they technically aren't expired yet. What is the POINT in an expiration date being a specific day if the doc gets to decide when he will or will not authorize a refill.

All around great office. Have gone in quite a few time to get my glasses adjusted and they have been courteous and helpful each time. The quality of the opticians that I have used around town can't compare to this office. Dr. Schmeltzer and staff spent a lot of time on me and I really appreciate it.

I suggest that you see Clair for fitting the frames. She is excellent. I had an old set of frames that I did not buy there, and she adjusted them for me to use while I was waiting on new ones. She even added new nosepads for no charge. I could see a lot better after the adjustment. She spent a lot of time helping me pick out my new frames. Dr. Gansel is excellent. She also takes her time and makes sure the prescription is done right. She cares about her patients.

I have been a patient at Albuquerque Vision Clinic for years. My doctor is very good. However, the optical department has really gone down hill. I recently went into the optical and after all the glamourus frames and lenses there is a staff that really knows nothing about how to adjust a pair of glasses. I spoke to what seemed to be the new manager and she couldn't spend two seconds with me. I left only because I didn't want to deal with her any more and my glasses felt WORSE! I went in again and a red head helped me. She couldn't adjust my glasses either. I did get my glasses there. I may continue to get my exams there but I am sure to get my lenses else where. Do not be fooled. I did some research and I can get the same lenses at any other private office. Prices are about the same if not cheaper at other offices.

My wife and I picked Albuquerque Vision Clinic several years ago because of the up-to-date technology, large selection of designer frames, clean and comfortable office, and friendly doctors. This of course all comes at a price which we have now realized is simply not worth all of the other hassles. The staff seemed very pushy about expensive add-ons, upgrades, and designer frames (peripheral vision test, lens coatings and upgrades, and frames costing well beyond what your insurance covers). For contact wearers, they charge a re-fitting fee EVERY time you get a new contact lens prescription ranging from (for my wife and I) $85 to $125 which most insurance companies do not cover (we have VSP). Call around town and you'll find many optometrists only charge this fee during your initial fitting. Not EVERY time. Examine your invoices very carefully. We were repeatedly informed we did not have insurance coverage for certain things which we in fact did and spent many hours quite literall
