American Geological Institute is a nonprofit federation of more than 40 geoscientific and professional associations that represent over 100,000 geologists, geophysicists and other earth scientists. Founded in 1948, AGI provides information services to geoscientists, plays a major role in strengthening geoscience education and increases public awareness of the role geosciences play in society's use of resources and interaction with the environment. AGI's staff of more than 55 full- and part-time employees provides professional and information services related to government affairs, earth science education, outreach, human resources and scholarships. It offers a bibliographic database known as the GeoRef, document delivery service, and publishes various monthly news magazines, including Geotimes. The AGI Foundation, a finance committee and advisory committees provide financial, policy and program support to the institute. American Geological Institute is located in Alexandria, Va.
