Look elsewhere

Town Square at Millbrook is not horrible, but you can certainly get a better place for the same price or even a little cheaper. It's sad to say, but I don't always feel safe living here. There have been numerous thefts and I now occassionally see a security patrol but it's only about once or twice a week (here's an article about it - http://www.alextimes.com/news/2009/jun/18/rash-of-car-thefts-vandalism-scar-west/). The security gates for vehicles certaintly don't provide security. Not only are they are constantly broken, but when someone opens the gate it stays open long enough for about 10 cars to pass through. Even the pedestrian security gates are constantly broken and are left open with rocks for anyone to walk through. No wonder why there's been so many break-ins!

The staff is not very knowledgeable and is constantly changing. I've seen 7 people come an go in the past 2 months. If something in your place needs to be fixed, don't hold your breath. Even a high priority request can take almost a week to be addressed.

Here's a few other things that I wasn't aware of when I agreed to move in:

- Verizon FIOS, AT&T and other providers are not available here. Only some of the homes can have DirectTV or Dish - it depends on which way your home faces. Comcast and Cox are available, but they seem quite expensive probably because they know these customers don't have anywhere else to go.

- Suprisingly water is VERY expensive. Plan to spend well over $100 per month for 2 people. And there's no way for you to verify your meter because you don't have access to it.

- Town Square now uses a utility management company. You don't have a choice - you have to use them - no big deal. But they now charge you (the resident) a Service Fee to prepare monthly statements.

- Parking is a nightmare. Don't even think of having any type of gathering at your place.

- I didn't realize how noisy the area is at night. It's hard to sleep with the windows open at night. You're conveniently located near main highways and roads, but you definitely hear it. There's also a shopping center across the street that's open 24 hours - and it's busy all the time.

- I was told that the management has occassional gatherings for the residents throughout the summer. I haven't seen one yet.

I certainly don't want to seem like I'm just venting, but there's just not many positive things to say. They try to keep the grounds manicured, but they only have a landscaping company come in every 2 or 3 weeks. The grass gets quite long which wouldn't be terrible except for all of the dog poop hidden underneath.

If you're considering renting at Town Square at Millbrook my recommendation to you would be to do your research. Read as many reviews as possible and definitely shop around (something I didn't do). If I was able to break my lease and move out early without penalty I would do it in a heartbeat!
