In today's hustle and bustle society, it is easy to overlook one's own needs and well-being. Symptoms of anxiety, depression, and mental illness can substantially impair our capacity to function effectively in the workplace, at home, and in social settings. As a board-certified psychiatrist, psychotherapist, and physician, I strive to understand each patient as an individual, with a unique background, set of priorities, social circumstances, co-occurring psychiatric and medical conditions, and patterns of thinking and relating to others. As such, I work collaboratively with my patients in designing a personalized treatment plan to effectively target symptoms and reduce suffering. In some cases, this involves use of psychotropic medications; whereas for others, psychotherapy alone may be optimal. Often, I utilize a combination of both medication and therapy to best address my patients' needs. Initial appointments are two-hour sessions. I am also a board-certified, fellowship-trained forensic psychiatrist who is available for psychiatric consultation and psychiatric expert witness services for both civil and criminal matters in VA, MD, Washington D.C., PA, and nationally. I have experience in casework involving various tort matters, independent medical evaluations (IME's), fitness for duty, substance abuse evaluations, consultative examinations for SSI / SSDI disability, private policy & OPM disability evaluations, workers' compensation evaluations, psychic harm cases, employment-related cases, testamentary capacity, medical malpractice, wrongful incarceration, need for guardianship, stalking and violence risk assessment, competency to stand trial (adjudicative capacity), insanity evaluations / criminal responsibility, aid in sentencing, and additional types of civil and criminal assessments.
