My son was diagnosed with moderate Autism by one doctor and mild to moderate PDD-NOS by another doctor when he was 4. When he was 5 1/2, we enrolled him in Brain Balance in Allendale. It was hands down the best decision we ever made for him. He is now almost 7 and is on a completely different development path then he was a little over a year ago.



I could go on and on about the changes that we have seen in him because of Brain Balance but here are a few main changes:



- Before the program, my son had a large vocabulary but could not use it. He would just talk to himself or ask for things he needed. He would not answer questions or talk spontaneously. If you were lucky you would get a "yes" or "no" out of him or he would repeat the last thing you said in a multiple choice question. Now he is conversational, answers questions quickly and appropriately, and tells me about what he did at school, his friends, and his feelings, etc.



- Before the program, my son had very hard time learning anything. The doctor that diagnosed him with Autism told me that if I did not put him on medication when he was 4 that he would not be able to learn. We never put him on the medication. After going through Brain Balance, he is now on par academically with the other 1st graders. We were also able to move him from a seperate special school into an inclusion program in a regular grammar school. He is in a small class room setting for his main subjects but then includes with the general education class for art, music, gym, world language, etc.



- Before the program, my son could not participate in group activities. He could not follow along and would many times run out of the room or just lay on the floor. Now he loves to participate in group activities and follows along and listens well.



- Before the program, I could not take my son to the supermarket or mall because he would run into the video game store and have to look at every single video game box they had there. I would have be in there for like an hour and then drag him out screaming. Now he helps me food shop and we go to the mall with no problems. When we do go in a video game store, he looks for a few minutes and then leaves when we need to without a fight.



- Before the program, my son had no sense of smell and did not even have the ability to sniff. Now he has a normal sense of smell, comments on smells all the time, and can sniff normally.



- Before the program, my son was an extremely picky eater. All he would really eat was bread, pizza, and chicken nuggets. He would not touch a fruit or vegetable with a ten foot pole. He now eats spinach, kale, quinoa, apples, bananas, strawberries, chicken soup, etc and is much more willingly to try new foods.

I cannot thank Brain Balance enough for everything they have done for my child. It was the best money that we ever spent. We had to make a few small sacrifices but I would gladly spend twice as much to get the results that we got. The changes that we have seen and the hope that we have now for his future are completely priceless.
