On May 7th, 2012, I had a friend take my gold watch to JMT Jewelers and was greeted by the receptionist. He informed her that my watch needed a new crown and she told him that it would cost $20 for a new crown. He asked her two more times if that was the correct price, because given the age of the watch, it seemed an unrealistically good price, but he was reassured that it would cost $20 to replace the crown. She told him that the watch repair specialist wasn’t in that day, so he was told to leave the watch with them, and that he would be called the following day about the details. He called them two days later because they never contacted him, and the man he spoke to said that the crown needed replacement (no other parts were mentioned), and they were just waiting on me to give the okay to order the parts and begin the repairs. After confirming that the price was still $20, I agreed to the repairs. About a week later, JMT Jewelers called my friend and told him that the watch was ready for pick up. When he arrived at the store, they told him that the price was going to be around $250.00 because they had replaced the pallet fork, stem, and put on a new crown. I, nor my friend, never authorized them to replace any other parts other than the crown, and they never called me, or friend, to get authorization for the extra repairs, nor did they notify us of the change in cost, so I refused to pay them. Not only that, they were not needed at all as the watch was working perfectly until the crown was lost. At this point, the watch expert furiously took the parts that he put in out of the watch and gave it back to my friend. The watch was working perfectly before I took it to JMT Jewelers, other than needing a new crown.

My friend took the watch to several other jewelers, who said that the pallet fork and stem were missing. JMT Jewelers took out my originals parts and failed to put them back. When my friend went to them to ask for the parts back that they removed, he was told that they just threw the parts away because they were “broken”; each of the parts are worth $50.00 so they threw out $100.00 worth of parts that I never authorized to be replaced, nor that I was told were “broken.” They lied about the price, they lied about needing new parts, they modified my watch without my permission, and they stole my parts and refused to give them back.

Note: The watch belongs to me but my friend actually went to the store for me. I had the final say as to what would be done on the watch.

Not recommended. Avoid this establishment at all costs. Look at Christian Barrett’s complaint which is similar to mine on https://plus.google.com/101633271553833364753/about?gl=us&hl=en . The main jeweler there takes advantage of people that don’t know about watches but my grandfather was actually a jeweler so I know some things about jewelry and watches.
