Waste of $

I often hear rave reviews about the Allegro. Frankly, I just don't get it. Maybe to some people expensive = high quality/class. They must be fooling themselves! I've been there on numerous occasions and have been less than impressed every single time. It's way over-priced (I believe the basic chicken alfredo is priced at right around $20, possibly more), and the food isn't anything special at all. In my personal experience, most of what I ate was quite under-seasoned and was one-dimensional at best. The only shining star is their mini veal meatballs. If you want italian food, go to the Olive Garden. It's about HALF the price, and it tastes immeasurably better. If chain restaurants aren't your thing, I'd recommend Lena's. The prices are extremely reasonable, and their home-made sauce is absolutely unbelievable!

over-rated

I had heard about Allegro for many years. I thought it VERY hard to find, especially if one is not from Altoona. (I usually drive there only to medical appointments & malls). On a Friday in Lent they served a free "bonus" dish that had meat. I said something to waitress & she said she too was Catholic & wondered why it was so. (I would have guessed management was Catholic also or at least should have known better). I had shrimp scampi and it was very poor. Wife had some broiled fish & it was at best "average." The waitress was nice & restrooms about average, I was disappointed & thought it was over-rated and prices were too high for the (lack of) quality.
