The Amherst Public Safety Communications Center provides dispatching services for Police, Fire, Emergency Medical Services, and the Department of Public Works, as well as working with other public safety centers. The Town of Amherst made the decision to start a multi-department communications center with service to begin on January 1, 2005. The Amherst Public Safety Communications Center opened Tuesday December 28, 2004, a few days ahead of schedule. In almost 2 years of operation the Center has handled over 80, 000 calls for service. The Amherst Public Safety Communications Center is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year and is located within the Amherst Police Department. A professional, team atmosphere enables them to continually adjust and improve, while providing an excellent service to the Town of Amherst.
