See letter below that I wrote to Costco Travel:
Having been a member of Costco for 20 years and purchasing vehicles and appliances through them, this is the first time my family has taken advantage of the travel option. We were excited to plan a Disneyland family vacation at a reasonable price and have the option of staying off the resort at an approved Costco Travel hotel.

Disneyland was wonderful! Our kids were appreciative of our 3-day Park Hopper passes and had a blast. The hotel, however, was (for lack of a better term) disgusting. I have heard positive comments about the Anabella Hotel and was excited to give it a try. Maybe it was an accident, maybe people traveling with packages received run-down rooms, but it was so bad we didn't even want to sleep in the beds! Attached are pictures that will show you just how dirty this room was. I have no idea how this hotel is even up to code with mold on the ceiling. Ironically, a week prior, my son had a skin test for allergies. The results showed he was allergic to 47 out of 50 environmental factors, one being mold. This made me extremely nervous, especially when we walked into the musty smelling room that was constantly humid, even with the "air" on and door wide open. Once again, how is visible mold able to meet building code?!

I thought maybe I misread the hotel website's amenities and overview. I went back to the page to read "an award-winning first-class boutique hotel"....HARDLY! The quote "Divine, a sleep experience including pampered bedding, luxurious pillow-top mattresses, and plush-duvet covers in selected rooms" show what guests are to experience. Ours were creaky, uncomfortable, and covered in an old polyester comforter, and sheets that were as thin as tissue paper. I'm guessing we were not in a "selected room", but that shouldn't compromise cleanliness. The "elegant granite bathroom" had broken shelves in the shower with very sharp edges that my young boys could easily hurt themselves on. The refrigerator would not stay cold, the ice maker on our floor was broken, the hair dryer that was suppose to be there was non-existent, and poorly patched holes covered the walls and doors. The carpet was FILTHY and stained, the closet door track was filled with black dirt and hair that was not mine, and the wall unit air conditioner did not work. The unit was loud and on full blast ALL night because of the moisture and heat we felt in the room, but no improvements were made. Keep in mind that this is January, not summer.

The glorious pictures shown online for The Anabella Hotel is a complete misinterpretation of what the hotel really is. I would go as far as saying false advertisement. I feel compelled to advise Costco about this incident as I know Costco is built on customer service. I would have rather spent extra money and not booked through Costco Travel in order to stay in a place I could at least be confident was clean.

I promise I am not a person that complains or writes numerous emails similar to this one. :) The hotel room really was dirty and even felt unsafe. I looked on Yelp and saw many similar experiences to ours. So, it's not just me. LOL!

Had I booked directly with The Anabella Hotel, I would have immediately asked for some sort of compensation or looked at staying elsewhere. For my kids, husband, and the sake of wanting to enjoy our trip, I stayed positive and tried not to let it bother me. Hence, this email post-trip.
