I asked for multiple contractors to come and provide an estimate for the repair of my boiler. All of them showed up and did just that, until I got to Diamond Heating. The tech spent 15 minutes just looking at my unit then went to the vehicle for about 30 minutes to "write up his report", and when he came back, asked for an $89 service fee. When I scheduled the estimate on the phone, not once was a fee mentioned. I didn’t think anything of it, because the other 3 contractors said they provided a free estimate. Diamond only said they would send out a tech, but did not say that would be associated with a fee. I figured there had to have been some kind of mistake so I called the secretary that set up the appointment to clear things up.

On the phone she apologized for not disclosing the fee. She then said an owner would call me.

The owner called me shortly after the tech left, and I tried to reason with him and ask him if he would not feel wronged if someone came to his home to just look at a system and then slapped an unexpected fee in his face. He cut me off and then insulted my intelligence by saying "$89 dollars doesn't even begin to pay for the expenses associated with what his tech just provided me". They are now demanding that I pay a $89 fee and have promised to send it to collections. But prior to showing up to my home they did not say an estimate came with a fee. They also never provided an estimated for the repair or replacement cost. The tech simply said it is broken and that a sales rep would be calling me to schedule an estimate appointment.

I never felt so taken advantage of and bullied by a contractor before. How could a contractor not tell you they will charge you $89 for 15 minutes of looking at your unit and then expect to bully you into paying

Way to expensive, poor customer service (had to repeatedly call to get a quote). In addition to the salesperson was very rude when i inquired about purchasing a furnace and then doing a self install. Took my business elsewhere.
