The mission of the Anniston Fire Department is to provide emergency response services, code enforcement, public education and ongoing training. The fire department acts as a first responder to structure and vehicle fires, wild fires, medical emergencies, hazardous materials incidents and water rescues. Its fire prevention and investigation services include code enforcement, fire cause determination, public education and construction plans review. The Anniston Fire Department protects a community of nearly 50,000 people living in a 55-square-mile area in Alabama. In addition to key administrative personnel, the department employs approximately 75 firefighters who work in three shifts. The Anniston Fire Department belongs to the international and Alabama Fire Chiefs Associations and the international and Alabama Associations of Arson Investigators.
