Dave Smiley of Smiley's Boat Repair is a lot of things but honest I don't think describes any of it. He did a bad repair to my boat which caused me to have an accident with another boat. I had talked to many a shop to find out what they know about this shop and none of them have heard of it. He does not stand behind his work. Just be careful if you decide to go with him. Anybody that will read this review will be able to determine what a bad business man you are.

Smiley picked our boat up from Lake Pleasant and charged us on the invoice for the return back to the lake. He did some shoddy repairs and rewrote a new invoice and deleted off the return of the boat even though we paid for it. But before we found all this out we had him store our 27' Searay under covered storage, or so we thought. We made a surprise visit only to find our beautiful teak wood being destroyed by the AZ summer weather. No cover, not even the full cover that was in the boat or the smaller cover. It was full of dirt and destroyed the interior. We had already paid our bill in full over $2500 and decided we needed to get it out of there quick. He wouldn't release the boat to us as he insisted we pay another $40 for storage and sign a release form stating that the boat is in the same condition as when we gave him the repair. OMG really. We said no way as you destroyed our boat. He put our boat inside and locked it up so we couldn't get it until we signed that paper he made up. At that point the Mesa Police had to be called in as he was stealing our boat. Two squad cars responded and made him give us back our boat. It has cost us over $7000 in repairs to fix what he destroyed. Stay away!!! And now Smiley go ahead and write a good review about yourself, just like you have in the past.

Looked for a used motor for my boat no luck until I found Smiley's Boat repair. Smiley's (Dave) had the motor I was looking for and was very professional and honest when quoting all costs and labor. Smiley's returned my boat to me ahead of schedule, would highly recommend Smiley's. Motor runs great, very happy with the service I received.

Had Dave tune my boat and had nothing but problems with it, motor kept dying when I put it drive and gave it gas. I gave him three chances to fix it and ended up telling me I didn't know how to drive a boat. I offered to take it to the lake next time he was going there with another boat so he can show me "how to drive a boat " I was turned down. Took it to another shop and $250 later ( less than Dave charged me ) it was running like a champ. the mechanic there told me he found 8 things out of adjustment. I also understand none of the other boat shops will work with him. Lesson learned.

I had Dave repair a 1973 Evenrude 6hp Engine that used to be my grandfathers. He had that engine purring like brand new. The quality of work is very good, the price is very reasonable and Dave is very flexible. Since then, I have dopped off my 7 hp Powerwasher for repairs and get that up and running again. I highly recommend Dave to work on ANY engine that needs some love!

I moved to Mesa from Pennsylvania 2 years ago. I lost my old boys network. My name is Frank Augustine and my cell is 412-897-6910. I'm a retired Police Sgt. from a sw PA police Dept. 33 years. I've seen it all trust me on that. I traded some guns for a boat from the 60's with a 86 Envirude 110 hp motor a month ago. The engine was givinig me fits. Ran like bad and every trip to the lake a issue. I called Dave at Smiley's to see if he could help me out. I was ready to get rid of the motor and buy a new one it was that bad. Dave told me to bring it right over and he would see what he could do with it. I left it there at 8am and at 1230 he called and said it was done. I was in shock he fixed it that fast. The engine is now running like brand new! Trust me the price was right. I could not believe he charged so little. Don't believe any negative feedback you see on this site. It's bull. Dave knows his stuff and he is my old boy network boat engine guy from now on. If your thinking about getting work done with Dave fell free to call me if you want. I can't say enough good things about the work Dave did on my motor. I'm just so happy!

When I moved from SLC to Phoenix, I needed to find an honest boat repair shop to work on my boat. It took me a couple of years of trial and error with various shops, but I finally found Smiley's! Over and above annual maintenance, the floor in my boat was starting to rot in places and needed to be replaced. I called various repair shops, including Smiley's, and took the boat in to get bids. Not only was Smiley more than competitive on his bid, he even offered to let me come down and see the damage once he had pulled all of the carpet out, and discuss options to fix/replace it. He had the entire floor replaced within 2 weeks, and I was back out on the water! He does the same thing with engine/outdrive repairs...he will even show/give you the old parts he replaced! Smiley gets you in as quickly as possible, is fair and honest, and will always ensure that your boat looks and runs like new. After my first experience with Smiley, my search for an honest boat repair shop was over... I have been going back to him for 4 years now, and as long as I am in Phoenix, he has a customer for life. Thanks Smiley!

I decided to by a boat in the early summer because renting them was too expensive. I chose Smiley's because of the positive comments on the internet and proximity to my house. Dave checked out a potential boat for me in early June. He discovered several issues with the boat and gave me a detailed report, which ended up saving me a considerable amount of money. Since that time I purchased a different boat. Dave has helped me resolve several minor issues and has spent an inordinant amount of time educating me on boat care, maintenance, and repair. Thanks to him my boat runs well and is very reliable. It is a rare and good thing to find excellent customer service in this day and age.

Just a word of warning, it seems rather suspicious that when unhappy customers are voicing their warnings to other consumers, immediately afterwards there is a post about how wonderful this repair shop is....smart shoppers will read each and every review to ensure that they are not being duped. Smileys is unprofessional, and unethical taking people's money and claiming that they have done the work that has clearly NOT been done. In addtition, charging for needless parts and repairs that had nothing to do with the initial problem and reason for bringing the boat in to them to begin with. READERS BE WARNED THAT THIS IS NOT A REPUTABLE SHOP!!!

We bought an old boat a few years ago and took it to Dave shortly thereafter. He has been our saviour on a number of occasions and is very knowledgable, reasonable and accomodating. We would have given up on our boat had we not found this shop. He and his wife are more than friendly and this is the only place to go in our book!

We took our boat to Dave at the beginning of the summer because it was not running right. We were assured on multiple occasions the problem had been fixed. Every time we took it out the same problems occurred. Finally after the forth time picking it up we addressed our disappointment and the reply was very hateful stating that "we just did not know how to drive boats!" There has not been one time this summer my children and I have been able to enjoy our boat. The problem is still not fixed and has now resulted in having to buy a new motor. My husbands review of our experience resulted in a phone call from Dave with Hateful profanity. This has now resulted in having to file with the BBB. This has not been a happy experience for us and I would not recommend them. Smileys Boat repair in my opinion is very unprofessional and not the right shop for us. Good Luck

I've had Dave at Smiley's work on every boat I've ever owned. I'm currently with my 5th boat and Dave has serviced and repaired every one and has always done a great job. He's taken my boat in and had it back to me quickly and has always kept me informed of what was needed and cost saving options. I've also referred many of my boating friends and neighbors to Dave and they've always had good experiences too. I would refer Dave out to anyone with any type of watercraft.

I'm very disappointed with Smileys boat repair. I took my boat to Dave 3 different times to fix the same problem. I paid Dave Smiley over $1600 and now the motor is locked up. Each time I was assured that the boat is running great. The last time he took it to the lake to test it and said it's running good. The last time the boat was out, the motor locked up. He is just a parts replacer, he cannot tell you what's wrong with your boat.DON"T TAKE YOUR BOAT TO SMILEYS.

I purchased a used outboard and delivered to Dave to have him install it on my boat. Dave went through the motor to guarantee I would not have any problems with it. By the time Dave was done with all the work, the motor ran like new. (impressive, considering it was a 1978 model) I took the boat to the lake and was extremely happy with the results. Dave was upfront with the work that needed to be done, and took time to explain why it was recommended. I couldn't ask more from a master mechanic. This is the second year I've had Dave work on my boat. He always says bring it in, which in the past I had to make appointments with other shops. He was finished in just a few days. I'm ready to go another season. Thanks for the speedy service and fair price.

Wow, just when you begin to lose faith in all humanity I run into Dave Smiley’s Boat Repair. I have never been treated so fairly by anyone in the boating industry. Dave tells it like it is and works at providing you with a quality outcome. If I was to sum up my experience with Mr. Smiley in one word, I would say TRUST. I promise you will be happy with your encounter. Best part is Smiley’s Boat Repair is it’s fair and affordable.
