Patricia M. Egan, Psy.D. received her Doctor of Psychology degree from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. She has a variety of interests and has worked with clients from ages 4 to 99. She taught high school English and psychology for 33 years taking one year off to complete a pre-doctoral internship. She has completed diagnostic and theory practica at the University of Chicago Hospitals - Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. While there, she worked in the Hyperactivity and Learning Problems Clinic doing diagnostic testing and treatment. She went on to Lake Forest College in Lake Forest, Illinois, to complete an internship in the college counseling program. She has also worked in private practice doing psychological and neuropsychological testing, psychotherapy, family therapy and couples therapy. She has an avid interest in domestic violence and completed a dissertation on the psychological effects of abuse in battered women. Dr. Egan's treatment approach is tailored to the individual patient. She believes that therapist and clients work together to define and solve problems. Since each client is different, it is important for her to listen carefully and get to know and establish an excellent rapport with her clients. Instead of focusing only on client weaknesses, Dr. Egan believes that every person has tremendous areas of strength that may remain untapped. Therapy and testing, therefore, provide a way to problem solve and to discover areas of strength that lead to a better life style in clients of all ages. Dr. Egan's extensive experience in school settings and with young people with attention and learning problems make her an ideal candidate to collaborate with students, parents, teachers and school personnel. Her years of experience teaching adolescents allow her to feel comfortable dealing with the many personal and developmental issues facing high school and college students. In fact, Dr. Egan was involved for many years with her high school's Student Assistance Team, acting as a resource person for students, teachers and parents.
