Located in Appling, Ga., the Columbia County Sheriff's Office - Detention Center is a multifaceted division within the sheriff's office. It is a 280-bed facility that provides detention for more than 6,000 inmates annually. The center also performs duties related to civilian fingerprinting for weapon permits, adoption and employment. The Columbia County Sheriff's Office- Detention Center is accredited by the American Correctional Association (ACA). The detention center also has a medical center that provides health care services to the inmates and is accredited by the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC). The Columbia County Sheriff's Office also maintains administrative, community services, professional standards, special operations, patrol and criminal investigations divisions.
