The Sport of Kings made its Chicago land debut in 1927 in Arlington Park, which is a horse racing facility where some of the sport s greatest stars, such as Citation, Secretariat and Spectacular Bid, have circled the track. Arlington helped revolutionize horse racing when it installed one of the world s first all-electric totalisators in 1933, became one of the first tracks ever to bank the turns on its turf surface in 1942 and featured one of the largest closed-circuit television systems in all sports during 1967. The track also hosted the first million-dollar race, The Arlington Million, in 1981. After a two-year absence, Arlington reopened in 2000. Churchill Downs has owned the track since 2000. Arlington has been awarded a number of Eclipse Awards by the Thoroughbred Racing Association. Arlington Park is headquartered in Arlington Heights, Ill.
