Big River Industries produces expanded-clay lightweight aggregates used in a wide range of applications by customers throughout the South and Midwest. Its lightweight aggregates are used in a variety of concrete masonry and ready-mix concrete products, including concrete blocks, structural concrete for buildings and highway bridge decks, precast concrete, skid-resistant asphalt and specialty products. Its lightweight aggregates provide fire resistance, insulating capabilities, strength, durability, earthquake and fatigue resistance and cost efficiency. It also markets Class C fly ash, a by-product of western coal combustion used as a partial replacement for cement in concrete and concrete products and for soil stabilization. Founded in 1954, its annual shipping capacity of lightweight aggregate is more than 1.5 million cubic yards.
