The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, also known as IIHS, is an independent, nonprofit, scientific and educational organization that assists to reduce highway crash deaths, injuries and property damage. Operational for more than 30 years, the institute offers services to prevent motor vehicle crashes. It provides solutions for the assessment of roadway designs to reduce run-off-road crashes and eliminate roadside hazards. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety s human factors research project addresses problems associated with teenage drivers, alcohol-impaired driving, truck driver fatigue and safety belt usage. In addition, the institute assists to conduct scientific studies on insurance data representing human and economic losses.
