Provided by YP.comMy wife (ethnic Chinese) and I have tried many Thai restaurants in the Washington metropolitan area because we love authentic Thai cuisine -- exquisitely light, spicy, and delicious -- unsurpassed. We rate Thai Square head and shoulders above other Thai restaurants we have tried.
Most local Thai restaurants seem to have greatly modified their menus to accomodate the American palate. That translates into food that may be delicious at first bite, but is far too sweet and oily/greasy for a full meal; and is certainly very far from the authentic light spicy food I ate regularly in Bangkok during several trips there many years ago. Most Thai food is very spicy hot so some patrons ask the chef to go easy on the hot peppers; not me though, even at my age, I want the real thing.
Ambiance is not fancy but is the kind of small family restaurant that I like best. Service is superb; young Thai waitresses working in the smiling, helpful and cooperative manner that typifies much of Thai culture. Prices are not the cheapest but are inexpensive. There is usually a line during peak hours, i.e., after 6:30 pm on Fridays and Saturdays, so go earlier or later, say after 9:00 pm. Parking is a problem unless you know about free parking in the alley behind the restaurant where young men take your car and squeeze it into a small space you don't want to try. Tip at least $5 when exiting the restaurant and getting your car.
Thai Square gets my highest recommendation for the tastiest and most authentic Thai food.
