Broadneck Evangelical Presbyterian Church
235 Bay Dale Dr, Arnold, MD 21012
Introduction & Description to BEP's Ministry Broadneck Evangelical Presbyterian Church ( BEP ) is a member of the Presbyterian Church in America and was organized in 1980. Current attendance is about 450. Besides the Senior Pastor, who was also the organizing pastor, the pastoral staff includes an Associate Pastor. BEP's youth ministry is a mature ministry which developed over the 19 years of service by the previous Director of Youth Ministries, who resigned in September, 2008. Both the middle school and senior high ministry are large, multi-program, disciple-making ministries involving regular youth meetings, small group bible studies, music teams, mission's trips and community service. BEP's largest outreach to our community developed through a youth initiated ministry and is called 5th Quarter . This is an alternative for students provided by the church and its sponsors following home football games held at a public park directly across the street from the local high school. The county parks and recreation department, the high school PTO and administration, and local businesses support this outreach and allow the church to publicly share with the students the message of Jesus' love. Over the 19 years of his ministry, the previous Director of Youth Ministries also developed a very active team of adult leaders, the Youth Ministry Team. In the absence of a director, this team has come to own the youth ministry and have committed to its ongoing leadership and development. Most of the students involved in BEP's youth ministry are from the nearby public schools, though there are some students who attend private schools or are homeschooled. The ministry center, built five years ago, was designed with a youth ministry priority having a full-size gym with youth rooms directly connected to the gym. On staff is a part-time Youth Ministry Administrator who has a detailed understanding of all facets of youth ministry planning and execution at BEP. The Children's Ministry Team is a team of adults who oversee all of the Sunday morning children's ministries from birth through 5th grade. The Pastor of Youth and Family Ministry will serve on this team. The goal of this involvement is to provide the groundwork for continuity between BEP's children's and youth ministry. The Pastor of Youth & Family Ministry will not have any administrative responsibilities on this team. Instead he will provide ongoing support and encouragement for the team and specifically for the team coordinator. Arnold is a community just across the Severn River from Annapolis, Maryland, the home of the US Naval Academy, St John's University and a center of colonial history. It is a water sports community sitting on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay and its many tributaries. Arnold sits on the Broadneck Peninsula and, though a suburban community, has developed a neighborhood atmosphere with one main road running down the spine of the peninsula and two small shopping centers where you regularly run into students, teachers, parents, neighbors and coaches. The Broadneck school district is known for its educational quality. There are two middle schools and one high school. Broadneck High School regularly rents our ministry center for their sports banquets. Within 45 minutes driving are Washington DC and Baltimore which provide museums, musical and theatrical entertainment, professional sports teams and much more.
