Citizens of Arvada, Colo., depend on the Arvada City Government to provide a variety of services. These services include police officers, street maintenance, transportation and traffic control, clean water, a waste water system, accessible parks and trails, and planning of new neighborhoods. Some other important services are provided through partnerships with outside agencies and organizations. For example, fire and paramedic response is provided by the Arvada Fire Protection District. Recreational and sports opportunities are available through North Jeffco Parks and Recreation District. Library services are the responsibility of the Jefferson County Library system. The city of Arvada has a council-manager form of government. Citizens elect representatives, which include a mayor and six council members, to make decisions and take action on issues in Arvada. The city council appoints a city manager to oversee the daily operations of the city and manage the work that is being done.
