The Johnny Appleseed Heritage Center was created to honor Appleseed's memory and celebrate his work and life as a philanthropist, conservationist, environmentalist, horticulturist, missionary, humanitarian and border scout. The tourist destination is located on 45 acres within a 118-acre parcel of the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District in north central Ohio. The idea for the Johnny Appleseed Heritage Center was first introduced in 1992. It was designated a nonprofit organization in 1995, and construction began the following year. The Heritage Center features an auditorium, reference library, museum, gift shop, picnic area, amphitheatre and learning center.
