On vacation in Aspen, and new to biking. Went in to look at Bike shirts and ask a few general questions about biking and Im just getting into the sport and trying to do some research on bikes and what I should look for was told, "take those $3 to your local dealer, he'll answer them for free, I will charge you $8". Put the bike shirt I was looking at down and left, never to return.

I am a part-time resident of Aspen and a long-time cyclist. I am a former Cat 2 road racer and member of Team USA for triathlon. This is all just to say that I have spent 25 years around bike shops and high end gear.

I will never return to HOA and neither should you.

Two days ago, I took my mountain bike into the shop to have some new bar ends installed and to get my shifting sorted out. Charlie and his lackies were rude to my out of town guests, as well as to me.  They treat everyone like tourists whom they will never see again. Absolutely appalling.  Possibly raised by wolves.

When I returned for my bike, it was during a rainstorm. My beautiful BMC was sitting out in the rain, drivetrain still caked with mud.  I was charged $116, and in return in received a bike that had clearly not received proper service. You and I both know that the first step in tuning a bike is to rinse any mud and grit from the moving parts, then use compressed air to blow out the water before applying a little lube. Only then can you begin to make the required adjustments. These simple steps take about a minute to complete.

I contrast, I received a bike with chain, derailleurs and cogs still caked in grit.  Not a drop of lube in sight.  In addition, the shifting is poor on new SRAM X9 kit.

What did Charlie do for $116 besides leave my bike outside in the rain and then speak to me as though I was an imbecile when I questioned his his service level?  Nothing, just a hollow apology, qualified by the claim that there is nothing on a high-end bike that will suffer due to exposure to the elements.

A man who cares about his business and his customers could have made the situation right in short order. Ten minutes of conscientious care could have fixed the situation. I did not receive that courtesy or the slightest amount of personal respect.

I would really like to support a local businessman, but instead I will actively steer people away from HOA from now on. There are other folks in town who actually want your business.
