I hired Chris based on the good reviews online, but unfortunately I had a very bad experience with him. His attitude was the worst, and he is the most unprofessional contractor I've worked with to date. Everything started out well with the booking, as he responded very quickly and was able to accommodate my request within a few days. I had to get a hot tub drained, cleaned and refilled, the house power washed, a few doors fixed (re-hanging a screen door and fixing ones that didn't latch), and a few running toilets fixed. I also had some electrical needs, but had another provider already lined up. Although Chris offered to do the electrical stuff as well, I'm glad now that I didn't go with him.
We were scheduled for a Wednesday, but because the weather was going to be rainy and he didn't want to work in the rain, we rescheduled for Thursday at 10am. No worries. He was over an hour late on Thursday, but to his credit he did call ahead of time to tell me he was running late.
When he arrived, I showed him where the hot tub was so he could start draining it and asked that he not drain the water into the back yard, as we don't want a lake with our two dogs running through the mud. He didn't have a hose long enough to drain toward the side of the house, so had to use my hose. Not an issue for me, however Chris seemed annoyed and told me I should have told him about this at the time of booking. Really?
When it was time to power wash the house, their equipment failed. Since it wasn't a "must do" on my list, I didn't make a big deal of it. But it would have been nice to have it done. We moved onto the next item, which was rehanging the screen porch. It was sticking in the frame a little. After re-hanging it, it no longer stuck, but it was crooked. One side showed more of a gap than the other. It also would not close all the way unless it was latched. All in all, it didn't look professionally done. His rationale was that I wanted to fix it so it wouldn't stick, and now it didn't stick. After I asked him what he could do to even up the gap, he insisted that it was originally crooked and that it was just fine. Well, to me it wasn't, so I told him I wasn't really happy with it. At that point, he said I'm a customer that he cannot make happy, and that he didn't want to do the rest of the job. He totally left me in a lurch, knowing that I had to get the other stuff fixed within 24 hours before my house guests arrived.
After all this, he continued to lecture me on how, as an owner-operator, he didn't have to take this crap from customers. He has thousands of other customers, and he didn't want any referrals from any of "my friends." He was extremely disrespectful, cut me off whenever I tried to speak, and unprofessional. Then he told me that I could not write a bad review because he did a good job for me. Well, he may THINK he did a good job hanging my door, but he didn't.
The hot tub, however, was drained and cleaned to my expectations.
If you are the type who doesn't speak up when you're dissatisfied when you pay a professional to do a job, Chris will do just fine. If you want a courteous, professional and customer satisfaction-oriented contractor, steer clear.
