South-View Cemetery Association is one of the distinguished landmarks in the Historical Lakewood Heights community. It represents a rich history and a long tradition of caring and is the final resting place for many African Americans that have made significant contributions to American history and the struggle for freedom and peace.  It is also the oldest African American "non-eleemosynary" corporation in the country. Among the notables resting at South-View include, Alonzo F. Herndon, John Wesley Dobbs, Rev.& Mrs. M.L. King, Sr., Rev. William Holmes Borders, Sr., Jean Childs Young, Marge Yancey, and Ann Nixon Cooper to name a few. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Dr. Benjamin Mays were also laid to rest at South-View prior to being moved to the Martin Luther King Center and Morehouse College respectively.
