Provided by YP.comI am one of the many people who may have gone through with this. I rented a unit for almost 3 years with one of the property owned by Evans Realty called "Summerbrooke". Never had a single late payment in 3 years.
The first month I moved in, I got a bill of $165 for my electricity which afterwards averaged around $35 a month. This was due to unpaid bill by Evans Realty or previous renter which I ended up paying. When I went to the office manager (who is really rude - Jenny), they mentioned that I am responsible for all utilities.
After about 2 months, I got $145 water utility bill. I called Auburn water service and they said you may have runny toilet or something. I asked office manager to have someone inspect it and the mechanic came twice and all he keeps telling is that there is an issue with water service. Finally I ended up paying the bill and after Auburn Water service department inspected, they found runny toilet which the mechanic did not find after 2 inspections. When I went back and asked for refund, I was told that I am responsible for all utility bills but they will help me paying $30 of it as a courtesy.
They started renting to just to earn business to people who would party every night late night sometimes 2 or 3 in the morning, standing outside of the lobby shouting and drunk and no one would take any actions. All neighbors were tired of complaining but the office manager never took any action for almost 2+ months. When I finally decided to leave their place after giving them a 15 days notice because of all these issues, they mentioned I have to pay the rent and utility bills regardless I live there or not, until the end date written in my contract. I left the apartment and paid the rent for 2 months according to my contract. I got utility cut off from my name the day I left, but still they made me pay the bills came under their name for those 2 months explaining this is terms of your contract and legal actions can be taken. On top of that, they entered into my apartment unit before 6 days of the contract end date and threw away some of my personal belongings without making even a single call to inform me. Even they never paid more than 20% of deposit money back explaining all kinds of charges even my apartment I kept clean like I would, my own house.
I got so frustrated and finally complained to better business bureau. They sent the complaint to the business and they never responded to better business bureau either. Their business is listed as not responding business list in BBB.
I just want to help people avoid getting into this situation. There are many good apartments available in Auburn with less rent than these people...
