Calstar is a regional, public, nonprofit helicopter ambulance founded in 1983 and serving California. The service areas of the organization include Concord, Gilroy, Auburn, Ukiah, Salinas, South Lake Tahoe, Santa Maria, and is headquartered in Fixed Wing and McClellan, Calif. Calstar operates under its Federal Aviation Administration Part 135 Air Carrier Certificate and is directly responsible for all aspects of flight operations and aircraft maintenance. The organization maintains strict control over crew training and aircraft maintenance areas. It operates seven helicopter ambulances, MBB BO-105 and Bell 222 helicopters. The twin turbine helicopters are available for high-performance operations. Calstar also performs medical operations in the state providing transport to the critically injured.
