Provided by YPmobileMy one year old child and I are participating in the program "1000 books before kindergarten". Today I decided it would be an excellent idea to go to the library. The children's area was nice. I was able to find books easily. Skip about 20 minutes to the real reason I'm writing this review.
As I am checking out the books and DVDs. My one year old child is within close range and she is playing. Not being loud of disruptive. The security guard STRATFORD MICHAEL LEE walks over into the middle of the floor and very condescendingly said "get you child this is not a daycare" (as if I didn't know I was in a public library). I grabbed my child's hand and finished checking out books. That comment had a bit unsettled. Once I finished, I went over and asked him his name and his supervisors name. He gave me both. Then added the comment "you make sure you tell them your child was all over the floor, it's on video, make sure you tell him that!"
My child never left my line of site. Nor did we violate any policy (I read all 107 pages). He was definitely discriminatory and condescending in both his verbal and non verbal language.
I know he is not a reflection of a the library staff because the people that assisted me were nice and polite.
I hope no else experience what he made me feel in that moment with is discriminatory and condescending actions.
