I have been to TAJ lots of times. It used to be one of my husbands favorites. I hate eating there. The food is hit or miss. They rarely can keep a chef, so almost every time you go there its a different person in the back cooking. The only consistency is the vegetables are overcooked and the chicken is raw inside. The food is usually under seasoned; it may as well be American. It lacks spiciness as well as heat. The owner/waiter does little to nothing to address these issues.

The TAJ OF INDIA was recommended to us by our hotel general manager. We were in Augusta because my husband had to attend a training at the military base there. We had been considering another restaurant closer to our hotel serving Tamil food but the hotel manager (who is Indian born himself) suggested the TAJ. And what a GREAT suggestion that was! The restaurant is a family business. The husband who is an OUTSTANDING cook prepares his scrumptious feasts in the back while his wife acts as server. She was patient, kind and took the time to explain to us the different levels of spice you could order. We both ordered the tandoori platter for an appetizer to share. My husband then ordered lamb curry as an entree and I chicken biryani. What a wonderfully delicious dish that was--the best Indian I have had and one of the best dishes PERIOD I have ever ordered in a restaurant in my 55 years of life! I picked medium plus spice and was utterly delighted. The amount of food was HUGE! I had enough to bring home for lunch today. I only wish we had such a place as the TAJ OF INDIA in Savannah. I would be a regular for sure. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND this restaurant but especially for those who love Indian food. Good show TAJ!
