As an entertainment lawyer, professor, and musician, Cathy Tabor has more than twenty-six years of experience in all aspects of entertainment law, including melding business, legal and creative planning, strategic referrals for wealth management, contract negotiations, and intellectual property. Cathys current law practice focuses on entertainment matters with an emphasis on the music and film industries. Her entertainment clients include recording artists, songwriters, composers, independent labels, publishers, concert promoters, film producers, actors, comedians and authors.
Cathys more traditional legal experience also includes administrative and civil litigation, with an emphasis on health care and professional license defense. Representative clients include physicians, nurses, dentists, chiropractors, accountants, veterinarians, engineers, and other licensed professionals facing disciplinary actions, as well as hospitals, nursing homes and minor emergency clinics.
Prior to opening her own law practice, Tabor worked with a small Austin law firm, Babb & Hanna, the Austin office of a national healthcare law firm, Wood, Lucksinger & Epstein, as well as a large regional Texas firm, Small, Craig & Werkenthin, focusing on entertainment, corporate, litigation, healthcare and administrative law. On April 1, 1993, she founded the Tabor Law Firm, P.C., allowing her to offer a more varied, concierge-style, client-focused legal services for her clients.
Cathys training in journalism and her passion for writing serves her well in her professional endeavors by assisting clients in articulating their core values through institutional policies, procedures and publications, creating feature article promotional pieces and creating on-line personas for effective social media and web presence.
Her communication and business development training translates to improved relationships with clients, other attorney team members and opposing counsel.
A frequent speaker and lecturer, Cathy has spoken on entertainment law and business development/client relations issues at conventions and seminars around the country and in Europe, and written several published articles on entertainment law. Cathy is also an active speaker on practical and ethical implications in the interface between criminal defense actions and their effect on professional administrative licenses. Cathy served as adjunct professor of Event and Venue Management at St. Edwards University in Austin.
Before establishing her law practice, Tabor worked in political consulting. In addition to her work as a legislative aide in the Texas House of Representatives, she has worked on three gubernatorial races in Texas, as well as some local races. She continues to be active as a volunteer in the local, state, and national campaigns.

- Tabor received her Bachelor in Journalism from the University of Texas at Austin and her Juris Doctor degree from Baylor University. She is a member of the State Bar of Texas, Texas Entertainment and Sports Law Section of the State Bar of Texas, Austin Accountants and Lawyers for the Arts, the Texas Accountants and Lawyers for the Arts, and the The Recording Academy ( National Academy for the Recording Arts & Sciences), (www.grammy.com) where she served on the Board of Governors from 2006 - 2008.
