Provided by YP.comIf, after reading all of these reviews, you think as I did "well, there are a couple good reviews, im sure it can't be as bad as they're making it", I can promise you, IT'S WORSE! If you have any remote inkling that you may give this company a chance, do yourself a favor: RUN! Go to BBB and read the complaints. Signing a lease with these people is the same as taking your wallet out, pulling out all the cash, throwing it in the toilet and jumping in with it.
As can be seen with my review history, I only write reviews when I feel strongly about something.
I stayed at 5117 N Lamar for approx 1.5yrs, spending 6mo on the 3rd floor and a full year in apt 100 on the first floor. Everything seemed ok in the beginning. The location is amazing, with great views and access to several eateries and a convenient store. That's about as far as the "positives" go. The elevator only works about 60% of the time(hope you like stairs!). The towing co that's contracted has been known to tow vehicles legally parked there(I've been a lucky recipient, fee was waived, but i still had to take a day off work and spend $ to go get my vehicle). The agents working for the property (we've worked with Kayla Martin, Adam Brewer, and Jeremy Sanchez, specifically) will tell you anything they feel will get you into the property/signing a lease. We were originally promised apt 100 (1st floor, vaulted ceiling, sliding glass door opening to Zennia St, sounds GREAT, right?)) for $1900/mo. In the end, we were scammed into paying $2495 + taxes/fees/utilities. The agent we were dealing with claimed "he had a deal setup for several apartments and something fell through on one of the others"(not sure why this had any bearing on OUR apt, but that's how it happened). At this point, we were less than a month from moving and had little other choice than to take what they were offering. Shortly after moving in (1st time it rained), we discovered leaking in 2 of the bedrooms as well as heavy leaking in the living room. The complex went back and forth with the city until we moved out after a full year, claiming things had been settled when nothing had been done. We didn't even have a screen door on our sliding glass door until 2 months before move-out.
Throughout all of this, one of my roommates (you can see his review along with 100+ similar reviews on "help with a y") is a paraplegic Incomplete, necessitating extra accessibility and having a weakened immune system. He had several seizures and add'l medical complications that we believe were due to the black mold formed in the complex they negligently allowed to flourish. I believe I also may have sustained some complications due to negligence. The management treated him like an animal, less than a person (read his review, Matt M below, if curious). We moved out 7/31/20, meaning this all ended during covid-19, making everything just THAT MUCH harder! I wouldn't allow my cat to stay in one of these properties, let alone any human.
Ely has now sent a certified letter demanding funds be paid pending collections including $2105 in painting (is it being painted in gold? Were we expected to repaint after living there for a full year?), $28 for 4 light bulbs (what light bulbs cost $7 ea? I can get SMART bulbs cheaper!) among several other ridiculous charges. The lease spells out possible charges upon move out. While even these written charges are ridiculously priced, Ely has gone above and beyond the contract to squeeze every dime they can out of us, as they made very apparent during our time there. place will take every penny that isn't being watched.
If you stay here anyways, make sure you get EVERYTHING in writing and record all conversations, as it WILL come back to bite you! You're welcome to contact me if you have any questions or are seriously debating renting from this slumlord!

Provided by YP.comI live at the Texan North Campus, and all was great until recently. On the plus side, I really enjoy our 4x2 floor plan, and maintenance is quick to respond when we have a problem. What I really dislike about Ely Properties is that they'll send maintenance to your apartment without giving you any notice and charging you for it. Apparently they do "mandatory quarterly inspections" in which they charge you $35 to change your air filter. They don't tell you when they are going to do this. They just tell you they do it quarterly. They'll also send people to go into your room to fix pipes without telling you. This is a serious safety concern since we are 4 girls living alone. Matt Ely doesn't even seem to care.

Provided by YP.comI would rather live in a cardboard box than rent from these idiots again. This year has been a complete nightmare. Like the others said if I could give less than 1 star I would. Since we have moved in we have dealt with no hot water for a span of over 3 weeks, broken dryer 3 times (which took 3 weeks and 5 requests to get it looked at), no working power outlets in any of the bathrooms, half of the power outlets in the kitchen do not work, the ice maker quit working and it has not been looked at in 5 months, by replacing the hot water heater they knocked out our AC, which took another two weeks to fix, in July of all months. They will never return any phone calls, emails, maint. requests, or letters from lawyers. We even filed a complaint with the better business burough which they ignored. I am sure we wont be getting our deposit back either.

Provided by YP.comDecided to follow a friends advice and to sell my property in Austin with Ely Properties. I interviewed several realtors and selected Tony with Ely Properties and I could not have been happier with my decision. He went above end beyond the call of duty to make sure the transaction was smooth and I was confident with the entire transaction. By far the best experience I've had with Austin real estate.

Provided by YP.comEly Properties found me the perfect place in just one day. I was a last minute transfer student and my parents and I came to Austin from Baton Rouge needing a place that same day. We tried several of the agencies near Rio Grande and the agencies we walked in to were too busy to help us and some even told us nothing was left for lease. We walked in to Ely Properties and the secretary was real understanding of our situation and arranged for us to meet Luke for an appointment. Luke showed us 6 places all within our budget and found me the perfect place just two blocks from campus when everyone else told us nothing was left for lease. A few of my friends and I are going to rent a house for next year and we plan to use Luke to help us. Go Tigers!!!!

Provided by YP.comI just got an apartment by campus and went through Ely Properties. They did a great job and were very helpful. I am going back to school for my masters and I didn't want to be surrounded by kids or live to far away from campus. Ely Properties really listen to me and took all of this into consideration. Long story short Ely is great and I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a new place.

Provided by YP.comI have to say quite the opposite of everyone before me. I've been a resident at Texan Tower and have had no problems. I was treated respectfully and given several options and plenty of information. I have lived here for the past couple years and have had no problems.
Every time I'm at the office there are a lot of students and parents coming in and out- which means they're doing something right to have so much business. They were helpful and informed me on anything I asked or needed to know.
See for yourself!!!

Provided by YP.comEly Properties will not return your deposits. Charlie will email you back that he has talked to Texan Shoal Creek owners and no further refund. This is a company that uses your deposit and pays for their own maintenence/operation expenses regardless of how much cleaning you do when you move out or what your condition Move-In report documentation.
Make-ready charges for the next tenant are taken out of your deposit even though other property management companies will classify this as customary, routine and reasonable.
Eli will charge you $450 dollars for painting even though Move-in report documents scratches and rub marks. They will charge you $90 more maid cleaning even though there is no cleaning documented for bathrooms, kitchens and common living area (they will show you dust on a ceiling fan and charge you $90). Charge you with as many door stops as you have doors is an example of nickel and dime deductions from the deposit you receive back.
Other property management companies when reviewing charges will say Eli Propertis Management ischarging you full fees regardless if touch up painting or spot cleaning is required. They are charging you the cost of a 3 year paint job
even though you have it documented on a Move-In report.
This company is not a good representation for Austin. Eli Property Management and Texan Shoal Creek uses student money that is not associated with rent to supplement their business. At the most, I would only expect 35% of my deposit ever returned.

Provided by YP.comBeing exchange student, all people here in Texas were always very friendly and nice. Complete opossite was Ely Properties. Not only they are unable to process your request unless you call them up every day for a quite amount of days, but they also walk-in our apartment WHENEVER they want! With prospect tenants or repair something just so they can add it to the bill - and then make up that its in the lease. NOTHING IS INCLUDED IN RENT. We forced us to pay repairs of their own assets!! Isnt this why you pay rent so you dont have to worry too much? And then when you want to talk to them they are SO RUDE! "This conversation is over, bye!" when you object something.
Just to add what you are paying 800 dollars a month, you get your car towed away before you run upstairs to get the parking permit, elevators dont work most time. People pee and vomit in the hall.
However it looks nice to you, please make yourself a favor and RUN FAST from offers from Ely Properties. Just next door in the Block they have zero of these issues, paying even less than we do.
Lastly, not least - not only bill was written write - by their clerical mistake we got back from the weekend out of Austin and had a notice at our door we are getting moved out in 8hours!!! Since we didnt pay (rent paid week ahead!!!)
More ridiculous and rude behavior that the Ely Properties is showing off I have never seen anywhere else and surely makes my exchange more interesting!

Provided by YP.comThese people will not pay back your security deposit. They say it is "in the mail." But keeping it after 30 days from the move-out date is illegal. They are the rudest group and extremely unprofessional. And to prey on unprepared and unsuspecting college students is just pathetic. They have been reported to the State Attorney General and the Better Business Bureau. There are many other property companies to rent from so STAY AS FAR AWAY FROM THEM AS POSSIBLE. Someone has to do something to shut them down.

Provided by YP.comI left the apartment in same condition I got it. They deducted almost all of my $1000 deposit.

Provided by YP.comthey are the nicest people in all of UT. they are professional, try very hard to help the students who are alone for the first time. Yes, there have been a couple of instances where checks may have been put in wrong, but they have hundreds of students to keep track of. I found out that if you dont put your address on the check, it wont get posted to the right accoutn. only takes me once. they were very apologetic about it, and made sure there were no late fees since they messed up. i read all of these bad notes about them, but i have to think, maybe the ones complaining are being treated the way they are for the way they act/or dont pay on time. my self and my roommates have had nothing but great experience, and we have lived at their property for 2 years.
most management companies want your money, and if you are late or threaten them when you dont get your way, you are going to be treated a lot worse than if you just pay your rent and treat your agent respectfully.
