Founded in 1987, Mendez Middle School is a learning center that provides a range of educational opportunities to more than 1,000 students in grades six through eight. The school s curriculum includes English, math, science, reading, physical education, Spanish and art. It is a Blue Ribbon School that administers the English as a Second Language program, as well as offers guidance counseling and food services. Mendez Middle School maintains a parent-teacher association that serves as a resource for students, parents and staff members. In addition, the school operates a library. It is a part of the Austin Independent School District, which governs several elementary, middle and high schools.
