My name is Jesse James Retherford and I am the founder and primary practitioner at The Art of Fitness. I believe you can live a pain free life, and I am dedicated to helping you do just that. I am Movement Therapist with over 16 years of experience in many different movement oriented modalities, personal training, massage therapy, and NeuroKinetic Therapy. I do this work because I was my first client. In my youth, I lived recklessly. I was angry and full of fear and self judgment, which caused me to make choices that lacked value or respect for my body. Because of this internal emotional turmoil, well into my late twenties, I chose activities which literally destroyed my body. Ive suffered through concussions, jams, sprains, dislocations, staph infections, and five major knee surgeries. I know what its like to live in pain, to identify myself as my pain, to feel hopeless, and to believe that pain is just a fact of life.

Jesse saved me from a world of...

Jesse saved me from a world of hurt. I was having a terrible time recovering from ankle surgery last year. I had gone to 20 sessions of PT with a guy my surgeon had suggested. After the 20 sessions, I still could not walk without having shooting pain. I kept trying to tell the guy that my calf and ankle felt all balled up and needed to be worked out.



Enter Jesse. He saw me limping around one day and told me he could help me. He said I needed to get back on my crutches and come work with him on some extremely deep tissue massage to break up the scar tissue. I went to two or three sessions and the pain stopped. I think continued on to deal with all the secondary issues surrounding me walking awkwardly for months on an injury. Now, a year later, I am dancing and running on that ankle with no pain. Jesse has a protocol of exercises and lifestyle tips to keep me strong and it gets better every day!
