The Blood and Tissue Center of Central Texas is located in Austin, Texas. The center operates under the Travis County Medical Society. Founded in 1951, the blood bank supplies required blood samples to various hospitals in the city and surrounding areas. It is a nonprofit center providing therapeutic blood products, tissue grafts and tissue donor recovery services for more than 30 health care facilities in Texas. The center supplies blood samples as per the patient s requirements. It organizes a variety of blood drives where people can donate blood. The center also tests donated blood samples for red blood cells, plasma and platelets, which are sent to more than 165,000 patients every year. Its tissue services division, established in 1985, provides various human allograft tissue products for orthopedic, neurological, cardiac and burn surgeries. The center is accredited by the American Association of Blood Banks and American Association of Tissue Banks.
