The cities that I proudly serve; City of Pompano Beach, City of Margate, City of Lighthouse Point and City of Deerfield Beach. The history of the City of Pompano Beach is quite fascinating, as it played an important role in the development of South Florida. Located exactly mid-way between Palm Beach and Miami, the city was at one point the southernmost railroad station of the famous Florida East Coast Railway built by Henry Flagler. Long before Flagler and the railroad come to town, southern Florida was home to the Tequesta Indians. The city of Pompano Beach is named after the Pompano fish which is abundant in the warm waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Margate was founded in the 1950s, when much of it was still either part of the Everglades or Farmland. It became a town in 1955 when land development became prominent due to an influx of people moving to margate. In 1961, it was officially incorporated as a city on June 22, 1962. Established on June 13th, 1956 the town of Lighthouse Point came into being when 107 of 600 residents voted to incorporate. Deerfield Beach dates back to 1890 when a small settlement named Hillsborough was developed along the Hillsborough River. The city is named for the numerous deer that once roamed the area.
