Gray Metal Products has its beginnings in 1890, when two brothers, William H. Gray and Malcolm Gray, formed Rochester Can Company. Marketed under the trade name Iron Horse, Rochester Can manufactured a specialty line of metal products sold to wholesale and hardware companies. Items manufactured under the Iron Horse name included buckets, assorted pails, coal hods, grain troughs and metal cooking utensils. In 1910, William Gray would patent the corrugated garbage can. Gray started a small metal forming company that incorporated in 1932 under the name Gray Metal Products. During this time, the company designed and patented gutter hangers and caps for round gutters. With metal operations in Avon, N.Y.; Dunn, N.C.; Cleveland; and Georgia and an Insulated Flex and Metal division in Coats, N.C., the company is a full line manufacturer of heating and air conditioning products. Gray Metal Products maintains a location in Avon, N.Y.
