The Bainbridge Island Downtown Association views Winslow Way as the centerpiece of downtown, where pedestrians gather on a street with vibrant retail and attractive places to meet and share experiences. A simple streetscape retains small-town character and a sense of place. We value green and our downtown grows softer, greener, taller, and more vibrant as people choose to live in a pedestrian-supportive town center where they find a range of housing choices and convenient services. A variety of transportation choices are available, allowing visitors travel to town on foot, on bicycles, in boats, using transit, or in cars. Drivers are encouraged to park once and become pedestrians. An organic grid of eclectic lanes, alleys, paths, and trails encourages exploration. Visitors discover diverse businesses and unique neighborhoods where culture, history, and the natural environment are celebrated. In the future downtown, our cultural and civic campus is alive and thriving, as people are drawn downtown to enjoy events and performances along Winslow Way, and at City Hall, theatres, museums, galleries, and Waterfront Park. Our natural attributes are celebrated; crossing the ravine recalls the bridge that once connected the historic towns of Hawley and Madrone. Trails along the ravine link neighborhoods to town and the waterfront, and a series of green spaces connect the community, define character, and protect natural resources. Our history shapes our future as downtown is experienced as a waterfront town, well-connected to Eagle Harbor by activity, trails, views, lanes, and design details. The waterfront that formed our community is engaging; people are drawn to waterfront parks, restored shorelines, and beaches by activities and attractive lanes, pathways, and watercourses. History is preserved at Pritchard Park, Waterfront Park, and the Hall property, linked by land and water trails and interpretive and preservation programs. The Bainbridge Island Downtown Association seeks to preserve our downtown as the heart and soul of our community, weaving together our shared values of an appreciation for our history, respect for our environment reflected in walking paths and trails, and a small-town perspective drawing residents and visitors alike to our civic and cultural events.
