The primary objective of the Kern County Probation Services Department is to reduce the incidence and impact of criminal behavior of juveniles and adults. The department tries to accomplish this mission by developing and operating correctional programs that provide for public protection, the prevention of crime and the redirection of offenders; providing investigation and enforcement services for the courts; holding offenders accountable for criminal conduct; and providing assistance to crime victims. In order to achieve these goals, the department strives to be responsive to community needs and concerns. Probation staff is encouraged to provide input to influence the direction of the department and to improve the delivery of services. Divisions of the department include administrative services; institutional services that include Camp Erwin Owen, James G. Bowles Juvenile Hall and Larry J. Rhoades Crossroads Facility; and probation services for adults and juveniles. The Kern County Probation Services Department is located in Bakersfield, Calif.
