Provided by YP.comLook somewhere else for alarm monitoring. Radio monitoring contract is a 5 year contract and then when it stops working you pay $99/hr. for labor plus parts if you can even get them to come out and fix it.

BEWARE OF KERN SECURITY!!!! After having their service since Feb 2010. My wife died on April 16th 2013. The home we lived in was just too large for one person (3200 square feet) and full of memories. I bought a smaller house in the Sacramento area. (where Kern Security does not service).
I hand carried a copy of the death certificate and a cancellation letter in person to their office located 2701 Fruitvale Ave. When I tried cancelling their service I was informed that in order to cancel the service and I needed to pay them $770.32 to buy out the remainder of the contract of 5 years. My wife's death was an unforeseen event and I think that there should have some flexibility in their system to forgive the remainder of the contract. (BEWARE!!!!! 5 YEAR CONTRACT STANDARD WITH KERN SECURITY). In my opinion Kern Security is an uncaring and unethical company.

Provided by YP.comVery professional company. The sales person Jason was informative and knowledgeable. We will be canceling our service with the competitor and going with Kern Security the local company that has been servicing Bakersfield and my family for years and years. We look forward to being protected by Kern Security.

Provided by YP.comI had a year-to-year monitoring contract, which I wanted to cancel because I found a monitoring company that cost less than 1/3 of what Kern Security was costing and provided the same benefits. So I wrote a letter to them telling them that I wanted to cancel our contract.
However, they told me that the contract automatically renews on an annual basis and that if I wanted to cancel the contract I needed to give them 90 days notice prior to the anniversary date of the contract. Since I only gave them 60 days notice before the contract expired, I had to keep them as the monitoring company for another year. I asked what they would do if I refused to pay and they said they would send it to their collection agency. I did not want this to happen because I know that they would report it to the credit rating companies and it would be next to impossible to get it off my credit report and it would cause my credit rating to drop by at least 50 points, so I kept them for another year, but I just want everybody to know that the prior review is misleading.
Kern Security is part of SSD Systems. I went on line to see if there were any other reviews on SSD systems and found the following:
“Be very careful with these guys or it could wind up costing you hundreds of dollars. Like most security companies they leverage you into long-term contracts, usually five years. That's fair enough, I guess, but if you read the fine print, unless you send a certified letter to cancel the contract before the five years is up, it automatically renews for another five years! Oops! And in case you can't use an alarm for the next five years, you have to buy out the contract for the entire amount. And another trick - if you add an option at some later time (cell backup, another zone) - the fine print says you just signed up for another five years....on the entire system!
Note also that crooks are almost never caught by the police responding to an alarm. Most robberies are now "smash and dash", where they're in and out in a minute while the alarm sounds. The police told me it takes 5-10 minutes for the alarm companies to even call them (it took them 8 minutes to call me on our recent break in).
IMO you're best off with an audible alarm and no monitoring - that way it's only the burglars ripping you off.”
