Recently got a puppy and took her to Bakerstown Animal Hospital for her first exam. Dr. Reed was personable, informative and really good with her. He took the time to answer the many questions I had and the Vet Tech, Christine was great in keeping her calm during the exam. Facilities are clean, employees are friendly and welcoming.

Unfortunately they take advantage of owners. I was out of town and had a friend take my dog in to have her anal glands cleaned (a frequent problem of small older dogs.) They took my sweet and kind Maltese and came back and handed my friend a bill for $142! I had paid $20-$32 at several other places to have this service done! They claimed that she needed a "yearly exam," but had forgot they had seen (and charged me for this) in Nov 2016 and had seen my dog in June of 2016 also! They never advised or talked about this with me or my friend - they just went ahead performed it and gave us the bill. My friend, very upset, called me and I spoke to the woman at the desk that stated, " that's the bill, pay it." Is that how to treat a repeat customer? Disrespectfully and overcharge them? Not very honest or upfront.

Time and again Dr. Reed has gotten to the bottom of whatever is going on with one of my pets. I started with BAH years ago when my dog was misdiagnosed elsewhere. I wanted a fresh eye on it because her condition was worsening. Dr. Reed nailed the problem and saved her life. He always goes the extra mile and this same enthusiasm is reflected in the other doctors and staff there. I trust no one with the care of my pets as much as I do Bakerstown!

My fiance and I are very upset about the treatment plan for our cat, who has experienced chronic ear infections since our very first visit back in September 2012. We thought the reviews of BAH were exceptional and we were extremely surprised at the LACK OF CARE we received.

I can not speak for any of the vets other than our experience with Dr. Mitchell. At our first new client - routine exam she was very nice (and wanting to keep our business). Then when we had to go back for an ear infection, things started to turn nasty...She put our cat on (the expensive) Hypoallergenic Food diet to rule out food allergy and then ACCUSED US of being bad and negligent pet owners when his ear inflections persisted. She never did a thorough ear exam/cleaning with flushing, nor did she ever check his ear drum, OR mention the possibility of a middle ear infection OR discuss the possibility of a polyp. (I'm beginning to think she doesn't even know what a polyp is?!) We kept receiving the same treatment plan...antibiotics, drops, and follow up in two weeks. After two weeks from the end of treatment the infection would return. On top of all of our worry about his ear infections, BAH was only concerned with us bringing a stool sample for his parasite check ($50), which was NOT necessary 2x a year (we just had it done in Sept).

After a very expensive and frustrating 5 months of failed treatment (2 medicines each trip, paying for office visits AND the subsequent 2 week follow up visits, and the food, and the ear cleaner) we sought out a second opinion. Within 15 minutes of our appt the new vet diagnosed him with an ear polyp, and referred us for an immediate surgical consult. He just came out of surgery, which was described as a successful removal of the problem causing polyp. Hopefully our cat will recover and heal with the help of his NEW, kind, and caring, surgeons and primary veterinary care, which will not be at Bakerstown.

Additionally, the technicians and front office staff are more helpful than the actual vet.

Bakerstown Animal Hospital is ...

Bakerstown Animal Hospital is the BEST. Dr. Reed and the staff treat your animals just as he/she would treat their own family members. In fact, they treat you as family. Dr. Reed is always upfront and honest about all decisions facing your loving pet whether it's positive or negative. He's helped me over the years with alot of hard decisions concerning my pets and I don't know what I would have done without his expertise and help in making those decisions. Dr. Reed and the staff never hesitate to call you back when you have questions and concerns. When your pet has a procedure done Dr. Reed always calls IMMEDIATELY when it's over to update not to mention the staff calling the next day to inquire about how the recuperation is going. Well - I can't say enough about this group. YOU ARE THE BEST!!!
