Thank you Seleh for repairing a favorite scarf that I thought was ready to be tossed. Because you stitched the tattered edges so neat it looked brand new, I can where it proudly for years to come. Also thank you for the 2 new scarves you made for me from scratch. I will treasure them always. Nothing like custom one of a kind handmade treasures. I have gotten so many compliments from people and one woman noted she wanted one just like my red one, made from a special fabric. I told her Seleh can make her a one of a kind also and he is prompt. He likes to get it done and out if the way in top quality form. Thank you Seleh. I'll be back for more.

Excellent Tailoring and Alterations!

UPDATE: 2/10/2014. The party was 4 months ago as of today and yes, more than just a few jaws dropped. I LOOKED GOOD! I am glad I went to Selah's. Just know that although you will pay top dollar, the alterations will be well-done.

ORIGINAL POST: 10/24/2013. I was notified later than I'd have preferred of a 50th Birthday Masquerade Party. Proper dress for such an affair when done properly is very ritzy. Common apparel includes an elaborate mask and Tuxedo, Ball Gown or extremely nice Cocktail Dress. It is way past 'dress to impress'.

After ordering a dress that arrived way too big, I fished around in my closet and came across a beautiful, beaded evening gown I had forgotten about that seemed perfect for the event. I was able to get into it easily and closed the zipper completely without hassle but preferred a little more breathing room. It was a little tight and I wanted to be sure I could bend over comfortably. I decided to have it altered and remembered seeing signs in the door and window of this little shop advertising repairs, tailoring and cleaning to furs and fine leathers. I figured this place would be ideal for the skill of what I needed done and convenience to my schedule to meet.

I went in to Seleh's with a self guestimate of around $60. I was floored to find I was wrong and quoted double that! After a brief, silent panick, I took it like a grown-up and paid just over half the cost as a deposit. I was asked to return in one week for a fitting so that any last minute adjustments could be made. When I returned a week later, I paid the balance, tried on the garment and was informed that the alterations would be finished the next day. I returned that very next day and tried on the finished ensemble, complete with the mask, undergarments and shoes I plan to wear. Everything was perfect and came together very nicely. I thanked Mr. Seleh Rahman for the quality of his craftsmanship and left the shop happy.

I must say, the quality of the alterations are top notch and I am glad that I didn't entrust it to 'any old dry cleaner' that happens to do tailoring. The intricate beadwork and delicate overlay on the dress are probably hard materials to work with and not tear or get holes in it. Coupled with the fact of knowing that I also paid for the shop owner's expertise and careful attention, it made the cost easier to swallow.

I am still sore that 'letting the dress out' and paritaly closing the back vent costed so much but the alterations achieved are better than expected. It is hard to tell that the dress has been altered at all. It is beautiful and fits well. As a precaution, I did opt to have a little extra wiggle room worked in just in case I put on a few pounds before my next opportunity to wear the gown but not so much to ruin the look of the dress. I do watch what I eat nearing an event but only to maintain whatever current weight I am at that time. I NEVER diet to fit into an outfit; I refuse to ever put myself under that kind of pressure.

The party is in 2 days...hopefully I'll make a few jaws drop.
