Ate dinner at Bricks last time I rode my bike to Bandera and wasn't disappointed. Wanted to try somewhere else for something different and 1856 was recommended by a local business woman. Excellent choice! Head waiter was really on the ball with his knowledge of exactly how each dish was prepared. Service was superb. Had my heart set on a nice steak but the Smoked Tri-tip Hash intrigued me as I don't see Tri-tip on many Texan menus. Was not disappointed at all. The beef had the right amount of smoke flavor and was very tender. The surprise though was that the hash was slightly sweet. Didn't expect that! But with the smokey flavor of the tri-tip and the fried egg on top it was not too sweet and turned out to be a very nice dish indeed. I started with the calamari which was very good too. Had a chance to thank Ben the chef in person. Just wish I could remember the head waiters name too. Definitely got to go back next time I'm in town.
