GOOD Automatic Windlass, Inc was originally founded in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the 1920's. A family operated machine shop and manufacturing facility engaged in many diversified fields. In January of 1971 the company relocated to Barnegat, New Jersey. The focus of the company was to provide an automatic anchoring system for the pleasure boating industry. Prior to this time, automatic anchor windlasses were not a commonly supplied item to this industry as they are today. The company recognized this and introduced a completely new automatic free-drop rope anchor windlass that revolutionized the anchoring methods for the pleasure boater. Good Windlass held all the original patents on the automatic free-drop anchor windlass and continues to manufacture a complete line of free-drop rope and rope/chain combination anchor windlasses for the pleasure boat industry. After 40 years of manufacturing experience, Good Automatic Windlass strives to satisfy its' customers and will continue to be an innovator in the development of anchor windlasses for boaters for years to come.

I have owned Good Anchor Wind...

I have owned Good Anchor Windless on all of my three large boats, 1967 37' Egg Harbor from 1977 to 1987, 1979 43' Viking DC from 1987 to 1997 and a1968 37' Egg Harbor from 1998 to present. They are terrific, never a failure, never a concern, except just now a line was attached to the horn (top of the windlass) and pulled it loose from the deck, ripping up some of the fiberglass with it. It will be repaired with new backing plates and a new composite base on deck.
