Their nationwide inventory can be very helpful in locating a hard to find car.

Their "inspection" is defective, unverifiable, incompetent and likely fraudulent.

Their paperwork is defective or missing and, along with processing procedures, could void any manufacturer warranty.

Their shipping tracking is zero. So a shipped vehicle could arrive at ANY time.

They don't care AT ALL about customer satisfaction and will cheat you as a matter of corporate policy if they can.

I bought my car from them in 2013 and there was tons of confusion and paperwork messed up but I finally was able to get it taken care of now several years later I have it taken there for service as I purchased the extended service plan....I was put in a rental for 7 days while they were fixing my car and was told it was covered under the warranty plan now 2 weeks after the rental company could not get CarMax to send over the correct information for payment so they debited my account for 3 days in the rental that CarMax failed to get approved after telling me several times it was taken care of. I finally called the warranty company myself and got the approval and now I have to wait on a refund check to come in the mail for money that should have never been taken out of my checking account.....The service advisor refused to even speak to me on the phone and the service manager tried to make jokes and charm me into thinking it was taken care of! VERY SHADY!!

This organization hides behind it's no hassle purchase experience. And don't get me wrong, it was no hassle. We picked out the car we wanted and left with in in less than two hours time. It was wonderful.

The problems came when the car began to malfunction on the second day we had it and experienced complete electrical shutdown twice before we returned it. There was nothing else on the lot we were interested in, so we had a full refund processed. The paper work was quick and easy, but they informed us that we would be receiving our down payment by mail as they couldn't simply credit it back to the debit card. But, they promised they would have it rushed and it would take no more than two days.

Here we are, two days later, the down payment has not been returned to us and the bank was never notified of the return. Essentially, we still own the car and can not look at financing a new one until they properly process the return, which they have not done. But you know what they have had Ike to do? Repost the car online as I their stock. It was back up he next morning after the return. That was hardly long enough for a technician to so much as pop the hood. I doubt the car was ever looked at. They will likely sell it to yet another unsuspecting person and drag them through this horrible return process.

In the mean time, we are being punished for mistakes that are obviously theirs. If I were you, I'd take my business elsewhere and save myself the hassle of the lies and smoke screens that come with carmax. The stellar sales reps and hassle free purchase are not worth the hassle of purchasing a broken car and then being stuck with the note Neil they "get around" to filing your paper work. Steer clear.

Do not shop here!!! My husband...

Do not shop here!!! My husband bought a car from here not even a week old and warning lights been going off, wires been popping out,and the car was given to us with stains that are unidentifiable and hard to remove. A total rip off, claiming they cant negotiate a price?! How places like this stay open is a complete question in itself...guess with a economy this bad if you really need a car,and desperate this is the place to go to make your life a living hell...mind as well go to a real mechanic cuz the only thing their mechanics are good for is hiding problems and charging fees that are not covered by warranty.
